CIGAR CITY HAUNTS • IMMIGRANT SPIRITS • TAMPA'S MOST HAUNTED DISTRICT
Ybor City started as a company town. In 1885 a Spanish cigar maker named Vicente Martinez-Ybor moved his operation to a patch of scrubland northeast of Tampa, and within a few years it had filled up with Cuban, Spanish, and Italian workers who rolled cigars by the millions. For a while it really was the cigar capital of the world.
Ambition built the place, but so did fevers, fires, labor strikes, and the ordinary tragedies of people living packed in shoulder to shoulder. A lot of lives passed through these few blocks, and not all of them seem to have left.
Today the cigar factories have been turned into bars and lofts, the old social clubs still stand on their corners, and people keep reporting things they can't quite explain. That is where our tours come in.

Ghost Tour in Ybor City
From family-friendly adventures to adults-only thrills, we have the perfect ghost tour for you
Ybor City was built by people chasing something better. In the 1880s and 1890s they came by the thousands from Cuba, Spain, and Italy to roll cigars in a brand-new town on the edge of Tampa, and in a single generation they turned a stretch of palmetto scrub into one of the most remarkable neighborhoods in the South. The Ghosts of Ybor City Tour is our all-ages walk through what they left behind.
Every ghost story starts with a person, and a choice. Before Ybor City had its hauntings, it had the things that make them: the greed, the grudges, the betrayals, and the appetites running underneath a town that looked, from the street, like a success story. The Darkness Between Us is our adults-only tour, and it walks the side of the cigar city the daylight version leaves out.
Join thousands of satisfied guests who have discovered the dark secrets and ghostly tales that make Ybor City one of America's most haunted cities.

Ybor City is one of the most haunted neighborhoods in Florida
More than a century of cigar workers, immigrants, and dreamers passed through these few square blocks, and the buildings they left behind are still standing. That kind of history does not fade quietly.
From the grand social clubs to the brick-lined alleys off 7th Avenue, Ybor City is full of places where people swear the past is still moving around. Our guides know exactly where to take you.
Vicente Martinez-Ybor founded the district in 1885, and at its peak it turned out hundreds of millions of cigars a year. The factories that built Ybor's fortune are still standing, and still talked about.
The Cuban Club and the Italian Club were the center of immigrant life here. Both are old, both are beautiful, and both have decades of ghost stories tied to their stages, ballrooms, and stairwells.
When the cigar industry collapsed, Ybor City emptied out and sat half-abandoned for years. Places that fall quiet like that tend to hold onto whatever was left behind.
Ybor's red-brick streets and wrought-iron balconies look like another century once the sun goes down. There is no better backdrop for the stories we tell.
Cubans, Spaniards, Italians, and more lived and worked side by side here, and not every life ended gently. The neighborhood carries all of it at once.
Ybor City is one of only a handful of National Historic Landmark Districts in Florida. The buildings have been protected, which means the past here is hard to escape.

Ybor City is widely considered one of the most haunted neighborhoods in Florida. The old cigar factories and the immigrant social clubs, especially the Cuban Club and the Italian Club, have decades of reported ghost stories tied to them, from unexplained footsteps to full apparitions.

They are. Ybor City is flat and easy to get around, and most of what you'll want to see sits within a few walkable blocks. We move at a relaxed pace and stop often, so you can take in each location while your guide tells its story.
Comfortable walking shoes are the main thing. Tampa stays warm and humid well into the evening, so light clothing is usually the way to go, though it is worth checking the forecast before you head out.
Our tours run rain or shine, so bring an umbrella if rain is in the forecast. Florida storms can roll through fast, and in the rare case of dangerous weather we will reach out about rescheduling.
Our tours take place outdoors as we walk the streets of the historic district. We stop in front of Ybor City's most haunted locations and share their stories, though we don't go inside private homes or businesses.
Our Ybor City tours meet in the historic district. The exact meeting spot is included in your booking confirmation, so you'll know exactly where to find your guide.
