Find Christmas Spirit(s) this Holiday Season

Your Guide for the Best Haunted Hotels to be Holly and Jolly

Christmas is a busy time of the year, to say the least. From Christmas shopping to Christmas decorating, it can get hectic. And nothing is more hectic than planning a trip to see friends and families or taking a holiday during the holidays.

That’s why we’ve come up with a guide to some of the best hotels and B&B’s for you to stay throughout the United States.

In customary Ghost City fashion, they’re all haunted. After all, the best way to get into the Christmas spirit is to find them yourself.

Skull with Presents

New Orleans: The Fleur de Lis Mansion

Built in 1824, this quaint bed & breakfast is one of the oldest buildings in the Garden District. This Greek-Revival townhouse has seen many families come and go, but it’s only over the past decade or so that the house has welcomed guests from all over.

The mansion has also been gaining a reputation for the reported hauntings of some of its rooms. Some people have heard the voice of a man, while others have been pranked by an ethereal trickster.

Don’t worry, the spirits seem to be friendly and welcoming to the guests. It’s the perfect cozy getaway this Christmas–an inviting room that invites friends from beyond the grave.

San Antonio: Hotel Gibbs

This office building has only recently become a hotel in the last 15 years, and it’s less than a minute walk from the Alamo. In that time, and the hundred years since its completion, this building has accumulated quite a few ghostly residents.

Guests often see a glimpse of someone in period clothes only to have them disappear. Other guests have heard the ding of the elevator or a wisp of someone going in as the doors closed. But the elevators haven’t been in use for years. Since all the ghosts take the elevator, you shouldn’t run into any when you take the stairs.

For those of you looking for a dryer and slightly warmer Christmas, San Antonio is the perfect place to be.

Skulls with Horns

South Carolina: John Rutledge House Inn

This 1880s house-turned-hotel saw tragedy when the 12-year-old daughter of the original owner died during a fire. Now, the spirit of the young girl can be felt throughout the hotel, running through the hallways or pulling pillows out from under patrons' heads.

She’s a little mischievous, but she would love nothing more than to spend Christmas with the family. She would probably love it more if she had a present to open, too.

St. Augustine: Casablanca Inn

One of the most historic inns in all of St. Augustine, the Casablanca is known for three things: its beautiful waterfront view, its cozy Tini Martini Bar, and, of course, its paranormal activity.

The most notorious of which involves the apparition of a woman often seen walking the halls or turning up in a bathroom mirror, leaving the scent of oranges in every room that she’s ever she's been in.

It is said that she is one of the original owners–back when the inn was also a stop for bootleggers coming in on the Matanza River.

In fact, the lantern she used to hang in the second story window to communicate with her co-conspirators can still be seen on occasion, especially in the backgrounds of photos. If you look closely in your suite, you may even find one of the secret rooms in which she stored her product. Believe it or not, some of them are still there to this day.

Casablanca is a perfect match to the tropical Christmas that you’re looking for: fun, sun, and the occasional Christmas spirit.

Skulls with Hats

Savannah: Kehoe House

There is no question that the Kehoe House belongs on the list of Savannah’s most haunted Hotels and Inns, and anyone who has ever braved a night at this small but luxurious B&B will probably tell you the same.

But what might be surprising about this Queen-Anne-style mansion, besides the fact that it was once owned by New York Jets football star Joe Namath, is that ghosts have become a welcomed attraction, and many of the guests have commented on their sweet dispositions.

Take for instance the Lady in Grey who haunts room 203 and has been known to gently stroke the hands of her cohabitors, or even kiss them on the cheek. Of course, she doesn’t just stay in her favorite room but is known to walk the grounds of the mansion as well, making sure that the guests have everything they need to enjoy their romantic getaway.

It certainly would make Christmas a more interesting time if you’re planning a holiday trip with your significant other.

Boston: Omni Parker House

A hotel rich with elegance and class, Omni Parker House is a staple of Bostonian culture. The hotel is renowned for its hospitality towards its guests, so much so that those who stayed decades ago have returned from beyond the grave to continue having such wonderful service.

It’s even believed that the ghost of Charles Dickens resides on the 3rd floor of the hotel. He spent many nights there during his life. What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than sharing a room with the man who wrote about Christmas spirits.

The End of the Skulls

Salem: Salem Inn

Salem Inn has been taking in guests for over thirty years. Interestingly, the inn is actually three separate houses from the 19th century, each catering to a particular vacation, whether you’re with family or looking for a romantic trip.

One of the things that the inn is known for the most is its hauntings. If you check the guest book, you’ll see dozens of paranormal reports and incidents. It may be a spookier time than what you were looking for, but with a gentle snowfall to gaze upon outside the window, it’ll surely make for a wonderful Christmas time.
