Just blocks away from the French Quarter, in the historic neighborhood of the Faubourg Marigny, sits the Dauphine House Bed and Breakfast. The Dauphine House truly prides itself on its location: within moments, guests can find themselves enjoying the live music scene on Frenchmen Street or strolling through the streets of the French Quarter, all the while enjoying a more peaceful stay at the B&B.

Paranormal Activity

The Dauphine House was erected in 1860 and is owned today by Karen Jeffries, a local paranormal investigator. According to Jeffries, the paranormal activity did not take long to start. One night while walking up the stairs to the second floor, Jeffries glanced up to see a couple dressed in 19th-century clothing at the landing.

She very quickly told them her plans of restoring the house to its former glory and from all accounts, she has not visibly seen them since—although she does not necessarily suspect they have left. Visitors of the B&B commonly see a male spirit pacing on the balcony on the second floor. Back and forth he goes, over and over again throughout the night. The spirit of a little girl; a different spirit of a man wearing a top hat and a formal overcoat; of doors closing, latching, and popping open again . . . the Dauphine House has at least five entities that Jeffries has come across herself.

Dark Shadows of the Dauphine House

On one particular night, a friend of Jeffries’ (and who happens to be a paranormal investigator, as well) was staying over at the Dauphine House. While sleeping, the investigator had this nagging sensation and awoke, only to look up and see a dark shadow gliding along the ceiling.

For those who live and breathe the paranormal world—for those who truly want their experience of New Orleans to be brimming with séances, ghostly sightings and listening to the stories of an actual paranormal investigator, the Dauphine House Bed and Breakfast will be your last stop.
