Haunted Jacksonville Locations

The Great Fire of 1901 destroyed 146 city blocks and left nearly 10,000 people homeless. Seven people perished in the blaze, and the trauma of that catastrophic day has left a lasting supernatural imprint. Visitors to downtown often report the smell of smoke with no source.

Jacksonville's strategic location made it a target during the Civil War. Union forces occupied the city four times, and the Battle of Olustee, Florida's largest Civil War battle, took place nearby. The spirits of soldiers from both sides are said to haunt the region.

Yellow fever epidemics struck Jacksonville repeatedly in the 19th century, with the 1888 outbreak being particularly devastating. Thousands fled the city, and hundreds died. The old cemeteries hold the remains of these victims, and their spirits are frequently encountered.
