Portland's beloved Hollywood Theater opened in 1926 as a grand movie palace, featuring vaudeville acts and silent films beneath ornate Art Deco ceilings. For 32 years, projectionist Walter Grayson ensured every show was perfect. When he died of a heart attack in the projection booth in 1958, witnesses say his dedication didn't end. Staff and patrons still encounter him, checking equipment and watching films from the shadows.

Portland's legendary Crystal Ballroom opened in 1914, famous for its revolutionary floating dance floor that gives dancers the sensation of gliding across clouds. For 110 years, it has hosted jazz orchestras, big band legends, rock icons, and punk pioneers. But in 1926, professional dancer Lily Mae Vance died during a dance marathon on this floor. Staff, performers, and visitors say she's still here, still dancing, still chasing the dream that killed her.

Portland's Central Library opened in 1913 as a beacon of knowledge and culture, featuring stunning Georgian architecture and vast collections. For 25 years, head librarian Margaret Hayes dedicated her life to building and protecting the library's rare book collection. In 1938, when fire broke out in the basement, Margaret rushed to save irreplaceable volumes and never made it out. Staff and visitors say she never left, still tending the books she loved more than life itself.
